Miri, Sarawak – In observance of World Sight Day, SOP Foundation reaffirms its dedication to community development through the continuation of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the SOP Vision Care Project. This project took place at TR. Andam Anak Wing’s longhouse in Suai on Thursday, October 12th, 2023, with approximately 200 residents from three longhouses: Rh. Andam Anak Wing, Rh. Juan Anak Suim, and Rh. Libau Anak Usang.
Collaborating with the Ministry of Health Malaysia and receiving unwavering support from Pejabat Kesihatan Bahagian Miri, Klinik Kesihatan Bekenu, Klinik Kesihatan Batu Niah, Klinik Kesihatan Suai Tegageng, and Spec Shop Sdn Bhd, the SOP Foundation conducted comprehensive eye care services included free health and eye check-ups, with eyeglasses provided to those in need, generously funded by SOP Foundation. This initiative not only promotes convenience but also enhances the overall quality of life for residents in the region.
TR Andam Anak Wing, the Chieftain of the host longhouse, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to SOP Foundation for selecting his longhouse as the venue for this significant CSR project. He commended SOP Foundation‘s benevolence in covering all expenses related to the eye screening program and sponsoring eyeglasses for the residents.
The Vision Care Project, initiated in 2013, has been designed to engage neighbouring longhouses in proximity to the Group’s operations. Its primary objectives are to raise awareness about healthy living and to reduce the risk of preventable blindness, particularly among children and elderly individuals in remote longhouses who often lack immediate access to medical facilities.
SOP through SOP Foundation remains committed to actively contributing to local community development by organising various economic support and social contribution programs. These initiatives encompass a wide range of areas, including education, healthcare, disaster relief, and more. SOP‘s dedication to the well-being of local communities reflects its ongoing commitment to making a positive impact.
